This post is all about locs and music.

since a little girl, 2 things have always kept me sane: writing and music. and right now in this season of my life (25 is *this* close to taking me out), I’ve been leaning heavily on music and observing how specific lyrics/genres make me feel.
i recently hosted my first ever workshop back in April as a professional loctician, and it was named “Rhythm Of The Retwist”. a concept that came to me so effortlessly as I was zoning out to my playlist.
so my love for music isn’t anything new—it’s deeply embedded in me.
so in today’s blog post I’ll be going through specific loc moments and tying it to songs that represents them best. sounds fun? lets do it!!!
This post is all about locs and music.
1. g00dayii—Salimata
starting off with a song that makes me feel so confident, so sexy. it’s the perfect maintenance day song after a fresh retwist, new nail set, and a sunny day to seal the deal. it’s literally a good day, like the title says.
from the beat selection, to her cadence and flow, this song has such a flirty feel that‘s destined to make you feel like her.
“I just sent the addy, come here baby.” kinda like when you want to run errands all day and call everybody in your phone after getting your hair done?
this song is the epitome of that.
2. pulp jam—cruza (feat. mamii)
this is my favorite song, hands down. the beat production makes me feel so free, like I can’t help but to bop my head and move my body to it.
“you don’t have to reason with me, baby i’m yours, i’m yours”
this lyric makes me want to run my fingers through my own hair you hear me!! I love a good yearn.
3. sunshine—Steve lacy (feat. foushee)
it was a cool summer night. my friend from Dallas had a late layover and needed to kill time. so we drove around houston taking turns hanging out my sunroof, blasting music, and forgetting about our worries.
I can vividly remember closing my eyes, feeling the wind on my face and throughout my hair—a feeling of being on top of the world.
“I’m always gonna be, where you are”
I need that feeling again.
4. pardon me—ka$hkenni
“pray for sunny days so I sleep through the rain”
for the past few days it’s been raining nonstop in houston, and honestly, I’ve been enjoying ever bit of it.
to be transparent, i struggled heavily with my mental health throughout the month of may. but something in me just wouldn’t allow myself to stay down for too long.
life is too precious to allow thoughts that does not belong to you, control you.
so this song reminds me to let things flow that i don’t have control over.
5. cigar smoke—salimata
right now i’m headed to nyc as i type this, and this song captures how i feel in this very moment.
”see i’m not good at anything but following my gut, you can see it in my walk confident i strut”
this trip was very off the whim but i believe all things happen for a reason. this experience fell into my lap for me to bloom again.
so damn it i’m bloomin.
NEW YAWK WADDDDDUP!??!!!
